Rev. Max Richter
My call to ministry came at a young age through youth leadership opportunities in the South Dakota Conference. Youth and children's ministries have always been a passion of mine along with pastoral care, creative worship and connecting the congregation with the community. I have served on neighborhood boards, in collaborative ministries with other UMC congregations and also on the Twin Cities District Committee on Ordained Ministry for twelve years, including four as chair. Other ministry passions include caring for creation and small group spiritual growth.
I worked in youth ministry after college for four years and also spent two years in long term care doing recreational therapy. Following seminary, I have served as both solo pastor and associate pastor in urban ministry in South Minneapolis and Columbia Heights and am delighted to be working at Champlin UMC now. I have a B.A. from Concordia College, Moorhead Organizational Communication; Spanish minor 1990 and a M. Div. from United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities 1999.
I live in the Merriam Park neighborhood of St. Paul by St. Thomas. I come from a farming background and love gardening, birding, cooking and hospitality. I am also a semi-professional musician with 13 years vocal training at MacPhail School of music. My life is rich with family and friends.
